Adelaide Fringe – Lucky: Songs by Kylie

Michael Griffiths Lucky: Songs By KylieMichael Griffiths is a popular choice at every Adelaide Fringe and this year he’s bringing us Lucky: Songs by Kylie. Who doesn’t love Kylie? On a Night Like This you will Step Back in Time as Griffiths narrates the history of Kylie Minogue and sings all her popular hits.

The minute the disco beats of I Should Be So Lucky start, it takes you to a time where you remember your ‘boofy’ hair and ruffled skirts. Ahhh the memories! It put a smile on our faces, and started a magical Kylie journey of hit after hit. It was hard not to want to dance. Kylie’s songs have that effect on you and Griffiths does a brilliant job performing them in his unique cabaret style.

As he tells us each milestone in Kylie’s life he manages to blend the story in well to match the next song. We reminisce Kylie’s days as Charlene in Neighbours as well as her secret love affair with Jason Donovan. In fact, there was a special appearance from Mr Donovan himself to sing Especially For You, well at least someone from the audience which ensured roars of laughter from the audience and even from Griffiths himself!

From Jason to Michael Hutchence there’s a great mash-up of the INXS song Suicide Blonde with Kylie’s What Do I Have To Do. Griffiths knows how to mash-up songs and tell a story to make you feel like you are reliving the moments. We journey through her ups and downs like the cancer diagnosis and her performance at the Olympics. There’s also a great medley that showcases the disco sounds of Kylie where you really want to get up and dance!

We did manage to get up and dance at the end of the show when Griffiths sang the hit that started it all, The Loco-motion. This show is another hit by Michael Griffiths. He knows how to bring the music of all the greats to life, and for this show you end up leaving the venue singing and dancing to your favourite Kylie hit.
