A View From The Bridge

Redline A View From The BridgeA searing drama of love and revenge set in 1950s Brooklyn, Red Line Productions presents Arthur Miller’s A View From The Bridge at the Old Fitz Theatre from 18 October 2017.

Eddie Carbone is devoted to his wife Beatrice and his niece Catherine. Then, Beatrice’s cousins Marco and Rudolpho, having fled the poverty of Sicily, enter the US illegality desperate to find work. As Rudolpho and Catherine fall in love, Eddie’s devotion to his niece is no longer touching, but terrifying.

First produced as a one act play in 1955 at the then named Coronet Theatre (now the Eugene O’Neill Theatre) before premiering as a 2 act play under the direction of Peter Brook in London’s West End, A View From The Bridge has electrified audiences around the world and most recently was tackled by Ivo Van Hove in a Tony Award winning revival starring Mark Strong.

Red Line Productions will present the play for the first time in twelve years in Sydney, in a production directed by award winning director Iain Sinclair (Of Mice & Men, All My Sons, Our Town). The legendary small stage of the Fitz will be reduced even further, with a custom built traverse seating bank to surround the action of Miller’s text.

The ensemble will be led by Ivan Donato as Eddie Carbone and rising star Zoe Terakes (Janet King) as Catherine. With Lincoln Younes (Love Child, Home & Away, Tangle) as Rudolpho, Janine Watson (Delores, Antigone) as Beatrice, Davin Soncin (The Judas Kiss) as Marco, David Lynch (Neville’s Island) as Alfieri and Giles Gartrell-Mills (Julius Caesar) as several Longshoremen.

“Presenting A View From The Bridge has been part of our company plan since we formed in 2014,” says Artistic Director, Andrew Henry. “With the extraordinary Ivo Van Hove Production playing around the world, securing the rights has been 3 years in the making.”

“I am so proud that in just three years Red Line has the reputation to lock down titles like this, and having Iain Sinclair return to Red Line to helm the production is the perfect combination. Add to that, a fearless cast led by the magnificent Ivan Donato, this will be one of those rare occasions where an audience is staggering out of the theatre.”

“The simplicity and restraint gather to a ferocious and bloody head that leaves you breathless and aghast.” – Time Out New York
